Conundrum

So why is it that one web browser will allow you to load secondary links, comment boxes and anything else that suits your fancy, but the other one will only provide you with a blank box? Teasing you with the knowledge that there is actually something there, but it's not going to let you see it.

I managed to install Netscape without a hitch, the only problem being that I really, I mean truly dislike that particular application. Not because it isn't a good web browser, it's just well to be superficial, I don't like the look of the damned thing, nor do I like the way it 'feels'. Yup, you can say that I am a Microsoft hoe. Just feel much more at ease booting my way about the Internet with Internet explorer. [Ya think that there may be some form of brain washing going on?] Well next stop is Opera and then maybe we'll try reinstalling Windows, maybe that will do the trick. [face scrunched up in hope]

Wouldn't you know it; Hugin comes home and everything is working fine. WTF? I don't understand. [humph!] I think I am just going to have to keep him here. So beloved what do think? Fancy staying at home for a couple of days? [batts eyelashes]

Defunct!

Had planned to meander downtown and spend the better part of the day walking about, watching people and reading a book in a café. However it just started pouring so I think I am jut going to stay home with the windows slightly open, enjoy the refreshing spring air and read a book snuggled up comfortably in the couch.

In other news my 'puter has gone on the fritz, again! [long sigh] It now seems that aside from not being able to read comments on our site, or any other site for that matter, any linked page will come up as a blank. I am not sure what is causing this but I am pretty sure it has to be something with Internet Explorer. Damn you Microsoft!!! [shakes fists] I shouldn't have installed the security update; everything was working fine until I did that. I fear that the other part of my day is going to be spent trying to figure out what went wrong. I foresee a lot of hair pulling, oh yes I do!

Update:
No luck, Internet Explorer is still acting wonky and I have no idea why. I have tried uninstalling it, re-installing it, completely wiping it from the hard drive and nothing. I still can't see secondary links. [loud scream of frustration] I am now going to resort to installing Netscape and see if that helps. [Ick!]

Messy Office

Our office has reached the stage of complete and utter disarray. It is at this point that I feel the need to go on a mad cleaning spree and throw everything within sight out the door. The only problem is the dust. It would seem that over the years my body has developed a deep seeded aversion to dust. As soon as my body encounters a dust cloud, my eyes begin to tear, my body begins to itch and my nose begins to twitch leaving me sneezing for days. However the office desperately needs a cleaning. Excuse me while I go muster up some courage, dig up a pair of long rubber gloves, find a face mask and knock back a couple of antihistamines.

Update: All done! The office is a wee [achoo] bit more organized and much, [peekachoo] much cleaner. [blows nose] Now if only the little dust fairies will leave the vicinity of my nasal passages.

An old favourite

I was reminded of this site for no other reason than watching Spiderman and seeing the bookcover for his enjoyable book.

Which also reminds me, anyone have any thoughts, experiences with Oakley sunglasses?

Twittering Rainstorms

What is about a rainstorm that keeps the birds twittering all night long?

The night sky burst open last night in a delicious downpour, cooling down the nights air just enough to make it gloriously wonderful to sleep with the window open and the covers thrown off. As I snuggled next to Hugin all I could think was, 'at last I'll get a refreshing night's sleep that doesn't include fighting with the covers in the middle of the night.' We zonked out in blissful coolness and three hours later I was woken by the sound of loud chirpings outside the window. At first I thought I was dreaming, and then after gaining groggy consciousness I realized that no, I was in fact awake and the twitters were real. Some silly bird had taken up residence in the tree by our window and was serenading the rain with zeal. GAH! Hoping that the bird would tire of his warbling I buried my head under the pillow praying that the song would end soon. No such luck, the bird/s [I am not sure if a replacement stopped by] sang till dawn and then continued on. I believe it was around 7:00 when my body could no longer sustain the grumbling of my mind that it promptly shut down and embraced sleep. I awoke two hours later, groggy and uncoordinated, to Hugin moving silently about the room as he readied himself for work. After seeing him off, to bed I retired in hopes of gaining some more shuteye, but with not much success the birds are still out there calling in the rain.

Raspberry Politeness

I have just been informed that it is not polite to stick one's tongue out and aim raspberries at the person sitting next to you. Humph!!! Well... [sticks out tongue and makes silly faces at Hugin] Ha! See? No raspberries... I think I may have just lost it!

Ouchy

Poor Hugin, his little fingernail has been pulled back and now he is all complainy and whiny. He has just stalked off to the deck after bonking my head with a book, well I'll be! [impish grin] I fear I might get in a wee bit of trouble for posting this.

Hugin - the word my dear is `toast', `trouble' is for the wussy.

Christine's This-or-That
Celebrating the arrival of the summer season! Summer = FUN!

1. Charcoal or gas BBQ grill? Much prefer charcoal to gas BBQ's.
2. Beach or pool? Beach or pool. Both have their good points, though if push came to shove I'd definitely have to go with the beach.
3. Sneakers or sandals? Tevas and sandals!!! Or when I can get away with it I much prefer walking about bare foot.
4. Sunblock or suntan lotion? Sun block, though it takes a lot for me to burn, I have worked to many years as a lifeguard in the sun and I would rather not take any chances.
5. Iced tea or iced coffee? Depends on my mood, both are yummy.
6. Touristy beach town or quiet camping trip? Quiet camping trip, as much as I love being on the beach I prefer secluded areas. If it's camping on a secluded beach then I am in heaven.
7. Theme park or baseball game? Um, not sure. Can I say the beach instead, with a volleyball net?
8. One or two piece swimsuit? (ladies...which do you prefer to wear; guys, which would you prefer a woman to wear?) It all depends on what I am doing, if I am frolicking in the water then definitely a one piece however, if I am just laying about in the sun then a two piece. Though I seem to prefer wearing a two-piece when I am canoeing as well. Hmmm?!?
9. Bicycling or rollerblading? Rollerblading, have only tried it once but am willing to keep on trying.
10. It's 95 degrees outside. Do you prefer to go outside in the heat, or stay in and hide behind the air-conditioner? Outside in the heat. I love warm weather and being outside in the sun just having fun. Though if I had the choice it would be outside in the heat by the water.

Doctors, Hospitals and Little Plastic Cups

It has been a long while since I have had a regular doctor's check up, about a decade or so, I usually tend to make an appearance if I am feeling truly under the weather, feverish or if I have developed some really odd rash that looks like chicken pox. However considering the span of time that has passed since I had last gotten a bill of good health I'd thought it might be a good idea to see our family doctor without the sniffles.

After a bit of chitchat and a prescription of pills for migraine headaches, my doctor looked down at my file and noted that it had been a while since he has sent me for any blood works. I was hoping he wouldn't notice that.

So, this morning after about two weeks of procrastinating I finally made my way to the hospital for the blood tests and a urine test. What is it about little plastic cups that make your bladder suddenly become very shy?

I had intentionally left the house this morning with a semi full bladder knowing that I would have to fill a cup as soon as I got there. After dancing through the sign-in line, pick left foot up, cross over right, place foot back down cha-cha cha, right foot over left ... cha-cha cha, and squirming through the blood test the kindly nurse handed me the cup and directed me towards the washroom. Finally I would get to relieve the pressure that had been building up all morning. Walking to the bathroom my bladder screaming for release and eyeing the cup as delusion of grandeur filled my head 'I would fill that cup right up, oh yes I would.' Open the door, unzip, and nothing. Wait a little while still nothing, it would seem that my bladder was now bone dry. How the heck did that happen when only a few moments before I was doing the bathroom mamba. Finally after much cajoling, humming and pleading with the organ a sense of release, the cup was half full and nothing more was forthcoming. As discretely as I could I snuck back into the room, placed the cup on the tray and snuck out. I am hoping that the quantity left will suffice and that I won't be called for a second encounter with the little plastic cup. I don't think my bladder can handle any further humiliations.

Old Email Silliness

Going through some old emails as I clear out my Hotmail account. MSN constant allowances of junk mailing and their regular emails containing the message that I have gone beyond my limit, [I wouldn't have gone over it if you didn't allow junk mail] that I am possibly not going to get all the email sent to me [Ha! It would seem that I only get junk mail on that account anyways so who cares!?!], and should probably invest in a larger sized email box have wrung their toll. I am moving over to a free agent that doesn't sell my info. Does that even exist?

The above however is not the crux of this post; I am not in a venting mood though Hotmail does merit a long ranting post bitching about their services. This post is more about a loss of silliness.

Going through some of the old emails traded with dear friends over the years I have realized that along the way I have lost my ability to be silly, open and free. I am no longer able to write of the cuff, expressing myself without worrying of someone will find me odd, crazed or delusional. As the years have marched on I find that I have also become less trusting, always fearing that someone will not like me or find a way to hurt me. I am no longer capable of just sitting with friends and being totally open. I have learnt to hide behind a mask, walls pulled up tight so that no one can reach in and shatter my fragile self.

I miss the old me. I miss that person who was free, capable of being silly without worry, willing to expose herself to new experiences and new people. The only person who has seen me at my silliest in a long while is Hugin. For him the walls don't exist, but I need to find a way of getting her back into the public eye. I just don't know how to do it. I don't know how to pull down the walls; I have no clues on how to be open again. Too many things in the past have left their scars and it seems on occasion that I am incapable of moving past them. But there must be away to do it. Maybe writing this post is a start, though it in itself is something I am afraid do to, debating on and of if I should post it at all. [soft worried sigh] But, here it is in the open a beginning of sorts.

Bed or Couch?

The morning debate has begun, do I crawl back into bed or try and gain coherent conscious thought. Currently I am leaning towards the snuggling back in bed option, the sky is a rather bleakish grey and the smell of rain is prominent all allowing for a lazy morning sprawled in bed. On the other hand it is also a good day for curling up on the comfy couch with a book and some movies, a large mug of hot mocha at hand to be sipped as desired. The debate continues.

I am sorry Jim but it's dead.

Aigh! One of our computers just bit the proverbial dust! Poor thing it's power supply gave out with a loud snapping sizzle after gasping for air as it's fan sputtered and coughed. Luckily the power source is not permanently affixed to the case or the board and thus replaceable. Requests have been sent out for a replacement and a memorial service will be held for the now defunct power box later on this eve.

Update: Well the part has been laid to rest and its replacement has been requested. Unfortunately they did not have any power supplies without a case attached to it on hand so we have to wait a week until the part comes in. I am not quite sure if Hugin is going to survive the week with just one computer up and running. [warm teasing smile]

Hermits and Tax Forms.

Why am I still cooped up indoors staring at a computer screen when it's a gorgeous 24oC [75o F for you Yanks :) ] outside? Considering all the bad weather we had you'd think that I'd be outside wondering the street, or sitting on a terrace reading a book and watching the people go by. Nope, here I am stuck inside, glaring at the screen as I tried and figure out how to complete these stupid income tax return forms. They say that anyone with a grade 8 level of education can fill these forms with ease; I say they are delusional. They have mastered the art of phrasing things in such a way that it is generally non-to clear if you qualify for the credit or not. Argg! I give up!!! Maybe if I sent all the tax stubs in with a partially filled out form they'd complete it for me? Do you think the might be kind enough to do that or will they just send the whole darn mess back, charge me for the postage and demand that I get everything sorted out before I resubmit my return? [long sighing groan]
I think I am going to take a break from this for a little while, put on a sarong slip into some sandals and go outside to read a book and enjoy the weather.

Perky Suds.

I think today this soap found through Robyn's site would have been the better way of getting my much needed morning caffeine fix. Not only cannot I not recall if I shampooed my hair first and then conditioned it, if I conditioned it at all, but I couldn't quiet figure out how to wrap my hair in the towel afterwards. Dressing also seemed a mite trickier then usual; pant leg equals one leg per not two and bra should be worn shiny side out. The coup de grace came however when I attempted to make myself a fresh pot of coffeeb to clear the cobwebs away, empty coffee basket out, spill old coffee grinds on counter, clean up mess, spoon new coffee grinds into basket, knock basket of it hinge while closing, spill fresh coffee grinds all over counter.

The only thing that worries me about using a caffeine rich soap it that I am afraid I'll over wash and be buzzed for the rest of the day.

Christine's This or That!

1. Bugs Bunny -or- Daffy Duck? Bugs! When I was younger I had this amazing bugs bunny alarm clock. I remember waking up to him saying 'Eh, wake up sleepy head'
2. Tom -or- Jerry? Jerry, never really like Tom.
3. Mickey Mouse -or- Donald Duck? Donald Duck, just not a fan of Mickey Mouse.
3. Rocky & Bullwinkle -or- Boris & Natasha? Rocky & Bullwinkle, though I also like Boris and Natasha.
4. Road Runner -or- Wile E. Coyote? Wile E. Coyote; always a lot of fun to see what he would come up with. He really deserves to get Road Runner.
6. Sylvester -or- Tweety? Tweety.
7. Popeye -or- Bluto? Popeye, 'I am Popeye the sailor man' ;)
8. South Park -or - The Simpsons? The Simpsons, though South Park has its moments, I have never been able to appreciate the show that much.
9. Jetsons -or- Flintstones? Jetsons. One of the cartoons I watched quite a bit of when I was young.
10. And finally, the eternal question asked by all good Scooby-Doo fans: Velma -or- Daphne? Velma!

Monday Missions.
After three weeks of slacking, here are the missing Monday Missions. [All done ~ big happy smile]

1. When was the last time you went out with a true love of yours? What did you two do that made it so special?
This weekend Hugin and I went out for supper at our local Irish Pub. Just being together no matter what we do makes it special.
2. Which far-away friend would you most like to see again?
My cousin who is currently traveling, I believe, and Oz-boy.
3. Any high or low points about this past weekend? What went on?
The high point was that it was a long weekend, which meant three days of snuggling time with Hugin. The low point that is was cold, rainy and miserable outside which meant that we did not have the opportunity to spend much quality time outside.
4. I've been thinking about getting a buzz-cut for the summer, a big change for me. Have you ever made any drastic changes to your appearance?
I am sad to report that the most drastic change in my appearance was a 6-inch trimming of my hair and a color change to a shade darker then my own with a non permanent hair dye. My look has not changed much over some twenty odd years.
5. How long do you think a couple should date before they get married? Or if you are married, do you think you should have waited longer to get
hitched?

I don't believe that there should be an allotted amount of time that a couple should wait through before they get married. I think that this is something that should be judged by the individuals in the relationship. I can only give as a suggestion what my Grandmother told me, 'before you marry someone live with them.' [She had a few other suggestions as to what living with them meant, but I will leave those out]
This advice is null and void if the individuals within the couple are very young, in their teens or immature. At which point I would suggest waiting until you grow up and mature a little.
6. I just found out my long-time friend does not like Star Wars (!) and has only seen the original 1977 movie! Have you ever discovered anything new or shocking about a long-time friend you thought you knew everything about?
Yes. That my friend Mel got a tattoo, I never thought she would actually do it.
7. Well we had a nice picnic and saw the sunset, but now it's dark and I think we should liven things up. Let's call some of your friends and go out.
Who do you want to invite and where should we all go
?
The old engineering gang, Awe-C-Lad, Little Sister and of course Hugin. We are going salsa dancing at this wonderful little Latin bar that I know where we will dance most of the night away, have some drinks and have a grand old time!

BONUS: Why can't ya be good to me?
Because I am bad, bad to the bone baby!

Monday Mission 2.19

1. Have you ever given someone a present you just KNEW would be "da bomb" and when they opened it you could tell they just hated it? What's the story there?
I can't recall if that has ever happened. I am usually very nervous about giving people gifts, I never know if they are going to like what I get them.
2. What do you do that you would prefer that Mother never finds out about?
My mom occasionally reads the page, so we shall not be posting the answer to this question.
3. Ever get in any arguments with your mother? What was one of the worst?
Often, my mother and I don't see eye to eye on some issues. I would have to say that the worst argument that I have had with my mother was over something rather trivial; the number of towels I was allowed to use per week. This 'discussion' led to me being tossed out of home.
4. When was the last time someone special hurt your feelings? Did you tell them or keep it to yourself?
It's been a long time since someone special has hurt my feelings, so I cannot recall the exact details. I usually tell people when they do something that has hurt me, however, I only do so when I trust them not to hurt me further.
5. Has your mother ever laid any guilt trips on you or made you feel like you can't do something good enough?
[long sigh] My mother has made me feel as if I an ungrateful spoiled child who only talks to her when she needs something, on a few occasion. Usually when her life has hit a rough spot.
6. Looking back on your life, was there ever a point you see as the "crossroads" where you made a decisions that changed the course of your life? A path you did not take? What was that path, and do you ever daydream about what your life would have been like on the "road not taken?" Tell me about that.
There have been many decisions in my life that have led me to be the person that I am today. I cannot say that these came at a crossroad, they were not decisions at which I felt that making on choice or another would close a door somewhere else.
7. That was an awesome picnic basket you put together, let's stroll out by the lake as the sun sets. A cool breeze blows off the lake as the orange and red reflects off the ripples in the water. I can tell something is on your mind and I ask you. You think about how to reply but finally you say ...
I have played here long enough, it is time we found a new ocean to swim in, a new beach to play on. Dearest, I believe it is time to pack up our belongings and move to warmer climes.

BONUS: What do you think will come of that?
adventure will come of this.
Other then that I cannot place the quote.

Monday Mission 2.18

1. Do you have any tattoos? If no, why not and what would you get if you did get one. If you do have one or more, tell us how you came to get it, and why you chose the design you got inked with?
No tattoos, though the idea of getting one has been a constant debate of mine for several years. The only problem in getting one is I do not know where to place the tattoo nor do I know which design would be more symbolic of who I am, i.e. I have not found anything I like as of yet. Originally I had thought of getting a small Celtic knot tattooed on my ankle, but I do not think that would be deemed appropriate in a professional engineering world.
2. Has anything ever happened that caused you to believe, or disbelieve, in a Higher Power?
Yes, there have been many incidents in the past that have made me believe that there must be a higher power, guarding spirits if you will. Though if you asked me if I believe that this higher power was responsible or creating the universe I could not say yes.
3. Have you ever seriously considered, or even attempted, suicide?
No, there is too much in life that I want to experience.
4. Has anyone you have known committed suicide?
Yes.
5. This weekend you and I are going to the nature park for a picnic. I'll bring the blanket and make all the arrangements. You pack the picnic basket. What's inside?
Delicious bottle of South African wine, fruit to share, cheese, some nice fresh croissant and baguette, thinly sliced ham, prosciutto and melon.
6. Have you ever been mad at God for something that happened (or didn't happen)?
Yes, the death of innocent children.
7. Post (or describe) an image of someone that is no longer with us. Tell us about that person.
I don't have a picture of my great-grandfather at hand; he was a warm gregarious man with gentle eyes. A man known for his kind heart and full laugh, an active chain smoker who would volunteer his time at an old age home so that he could help the elderly, he did this up until he was ninety-two, two years before he past away. I have every fond memories of my great-grandfather, but what I remember most about him was is ability to love and to live life to it's fullest.

BONUS: Who are you?
All I can think of at the moment is of the CSI theme song, which I now is based on another song whose name now eludes me. So I shall say 'I am the terror that flaps in the night...'

Eee-choo

I have spent the past five minutes sneezing at the screen; little tiny peekachew sneezes as the dust torments my nose. I am hoping for a loud body shuddering sneeze that will clear the dust fairies out but that is not to come.
I can remember sneezing thus as a child, sneezing so hard that my body would double over as my knee jerked up to my head, knocking my already tormented nose dead on. I remember the feel of those sneezes, how afterwards even though my nose was a little worse for wear, my head would feel clear, my body all tingly and my nose happier for the lack of particles that had been tormenting it a few moments before. Those sneezes have long since stopped, as they become an endangerment to my bodies well being; walk down hallway sneeze, bonk head on doorframe. Stand in bathroom, sneeze, double over, hit temple on edge of sink. As the years past and the afflictions become worst I had learnt to control my sneezing in such a way that I would not bang into anything with force. They become quieter and smaller, little eeckachoo sneezes that only caused the mildest of body doubling, as stomach muscles tensed to hold the torso in place and toes scrunched tight to keep feet firmly on floor. The only downside, aside from sounding like a mouse, is that the dust never clears and I spend minutes sneezing away as my body tries to clear it's air passage.
What I would do for a good loud nose-clearing sneeze, that doesn't result in a concussion.

Bell Sympatico

Well, they have done something now to once again get the ADSL community upset with them, not an unusual occurance I must say. But now they are imposing a bandwidth cap of 5Gb up or down and are charging for anything over. In such a day and age that seems to be moving backwards. In the era of the internet for a broadband service it seems to be like giving a baby candy and slapping the baby whenever they take too many licks.

I think this is the one that breaks the camel's back though. I found some of the other things they did to be annoying, but not destructive, this time it is. Time to look elsewhere, sure the other companies have to use the Bell system in order to provide their DSL, but it doesn't mean they will be quite as foolish about how they do it.

There are few situations I have seen personally that seem intentionally designed to drive a client base away, this is one of them.

4. Monkey bars or slide? Both, climb up the monkey bars to slide down the slide.

8. Giggle or chuckle? Giggler, that be me. [grins]
9. Would you rather: walk in front of a crowd in your birthday suit, or eat worms? Walk in front of a crowd naked. [shudder] can't stomach the notions of eating worms.

Friday Five

1. What shampoo do you use?
There are two brands that I regularly use, La Coupe shampoo for fine hair and Revlon Outrageous. Occasionally I will either use Timotie, Herbal Essence or Aussie Shampoo.
2. Do you use conditioner? What kind?
Yes, either La Coupe or Revelon Outrageous and once a week I use Phytokarité; a deep condition mask.
3. When was the last time you got your haircut?
I think it was a month ago.
4. What styling products do you use?
Usually none, though if I need to style my hair VO5 mousse.
5. What's your worst hair-related experience?
Aside from the winter when my hair becomes a huge static ball, I would have to say when a hairdresser decided that a few layers in the front meant give me layers that wrap around half my head. The short layers drove me nuts; I couldn't pull my hair up properly without at least a dozen strands flopping in my face.

Brain asleep. Gah! Must ... wake ... up; coherent thought elusive. [yawn] Must... get ...coffee and shower. Body not resposnding to verbal commands. [Munin slithers of chair and crawls towards kitchen hunting for disgarded coffee grounds]

Much Silliness and Growlings.

After a day of much silliness with no capabilities of being able to post, get a .shtml file to load and having exceeded our CGI scripting we are back on track, minus one really giant leap. It will seem as if MT will have to stay on the back burner for a little while longer, well until I get a paying job so I can pay for web hosting, no CGI limitations and no file limits. Plus this will give me the time to tweak out the little bugs that have cropped up with MT. Commenting, hey why can't I comment anymore, and that silly ability of our server to pull an internal error every time we post. Any one got any ideas why the hell it would be doing that? Once again a HUGE THANK YOU to Candi, for all her help, her amazing patience and her just plain wonderfulness. We'll get it up and running one day. [hopeful impish smile]

Posted by munin at 11:29 AM | Comments (0)

Back to blogger.

Well it would seem that we have a limit on CGI scripts under the free web hosting service so until that can become a paid service we shall keep publishing from blogger. [sigh] Almost had it. But you can still see the MT site at www.huginandmunin.net/babble

Relaxed anticipation I have decided

I have decided that today is going to be one of those long relaxing days. Just me and some coffee, answering email [there is a rather large stack], surfing online, reading books and contacting that Potential Employer who said he would email yesterday but hasn't! [grumble] I would really, really like to be hired for this job. It is one I believe that I can do well and it provides tons of challenges, which is butterfly in tummy making but also something I also thrive on. I have been a wreck of nervous anticipation all day yesterday, just waiting for him to email after confirming that he would do so earlier on in the day. I am currently at that point of surliness, the point in which my minds begins the lecture, 'listen buddy, if you don't want to hire me just tell me, don't leave me hanging like this. I've got debts to pay and would like to know where I am going. But you should know, I am right for the job, I know that I am qualified and capable, just give me a chance...' It goes to a pathetic form of begging from there 'please, please, please' Well he has till 1:00 and then I am calling him. Keep your fingers crossed. 'please, please...'

Broken

Puttering around home, cleaning, scrubbing bathroom, gazing aimlessly at TV and trying to get MT up and running so we can start posting from there.
All was fine and dandy, the template looking fine and then I broke it! [small whimper] I don't know what I did, but I broke it! [sob] Now instead of entries we have nothing [whine] All I was innocently trying to do was import the Blogger posts into MT. Easy as pie right? Well it should be, but no I mussed it up, yes I did. First off MT did not seemed inclined to want to import all the posts. I landed up with part of them 300 or so posts and because I was impatient I also landed up with multiple copies of them too. Five copies of each imported post to be exact. Next off, after deleting multiple new imported posts, MT then decided that it had, had quite enough of me playing with it's innards and thus decided that it would no longer publish any of the posts. To add insult to injury MT also removed any trace of recently published entries from public view, but it left a little note, well two actually. It pointed out that there were some errors somewhere I am not sure exactly where, and it left evidence of existing posts in the Edit Entry section and kindly also left them in the Category archives. I have no idea what I have done, and have no inkling on how to remedy this situation [sniffle] Anyone got any ideas?

Just In

I was just reading Neil Gaiman's journal and he mentioned seeing Spider-man (YAY!) and then having previously seen a double bill at the drive-in of Men in Black and the Fifth Element. Now I don't know of a drive-in that's playing those, so the next best thing will have to be my grabbing those movies off the shelf near the tv and enjoying the cheese!

MIB2 looks like it will be just as wonderfully cheesy as the first one. And I hope the DVD extras end up being as good also.
As for the Fifth Element, that movie was just such a blast to watch!

Forget Brie and Gouda, or Ementhal and the rest, because, yes, my favourite make of cheese comes from Hollywood.

Voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir?

J'ai écrit mon dernier examen to mon carrier collégial hier en français! Ça bien passer et j'espère que je n'ais pas fait trop de fautes d'orthographe! So that's it my college career has now officially ended! Well almost, I can officially declare closure when that luverly piece of paper stating that I have indeed obtained my degree is grasped firmly in my grubby little fingers. Once there, there is no way in hell that I am giving that piece of paper back to them. It feels so good to finally have finished one of the degrees that I had decided to undertake a while back. All that is left are a few staggering classes in another degree and then I can safely say that I am indeed qualified to build you a bridge! Maintenant le gros matou va jouer.

I do believe I shall be moving my workspace into the bathroom.

Last exam butterflies

I can never explain this nervousness I feel before I head into an exam. My stomach fills with butterflies, my pulse begins to race and my body gets all tingly. A small part of my mind vainly attempts to calm the rest of itself with no success. It really quiet silly, I mean why should I be so deathly afraid of writing exams. There shouldn't be much to it? Right? Now if only I can convince myself that this was true. Well off to write the last exam. Last?!? [shocked look] Wow, it is the last exam I will write for this degree. Yoiks!!!

Paper bags and other envelopes.

The mask it is all done, finito, completed. Handed it over to an intermediary this morning, the teacher was not in this morning it would seem he went drinking with the boys and got a little ripped. I hope he will not be offended by the paper bag envelope, couldn't seem to find one this morning, an envelope that is, so a good friend handed me a brown paper lunch bag to use instead. Two projects handed in another two courses completed. Just one more exam on Monday and that is all, I am done! [bounds of to do a little jig of happiness]

No more teachers dirty looks!

One more course completed this morning and another half course done this afternoon after a long brain numbing 3-hour exam. Owe me eyes! The CNC course is almost over, just need to submit the mask to the icky teacher tomorrow and then No More, well of him. No more 'Isn't this a sexy program?' No more 'we'll add this line and make it look sexy.' No more ceaseless babbling, sarcasm and inappropriate comments. I am tickled pink at the prospect of never having to deal with him again!

Hello, have you seen my brain? I think I may have left it somewhere.

Update: Brain is still missing. If found please return to Munin. She has been wandering around headless chicken like all day. Thank you.

Silly Computer Program Trix are for Kids. Almost done, nearly there just a few more lines [about a hundred or so] and the mask a la CNC will be ready for production. Now if only I could just get that darned program to actually draw the damn lines. Thrice, I have tried three times to draw a simple straight line, starting from one point in 3D space to another and will it cooperate? NO! All I get is an error message saying that the line cannot have the same point defining both it's start and end. Really! Well I thought I could you silly good for nothing #@$% [please insert appropriate explicative here] program! FECK! I am too tired to argue with it, aside I think I would lose. This is going to be one long frustrating hair pulling night. Could someone, anyone, please send me copious amounts of caffeine and a box of toothpicks. [cat whine]

Ashley's This or That!

Short and sweet. A big thank you to Ashley, who comes up with this wonderful Meme.

1. This or that? That.
2. Could or should? Could.
3. Want or need? Want. I always seem to want things, it has almost never been 'I need this,' always I want.
4. Right or left? Right.
5. Up or down? Up.
6. Do or don't? Do ah diddey!
7. Talk or listen? Listen. Too shy to talk much prefer listening.
8. Sleep or play? Play, as much as I can!
9. Highlight or underline? Highlight.
10. Marry or merry? Merry [happy smile] Hopefully both, one day.

Posted by munin at 05:13 PM | Comments (0)

Finally!

I have wanted to post this since the beginning of the week [happy smile] One exam done one course finished! Wahoo! [bounces up and down joyously] The exam turned out to be easier then I had anticipated which means that I was able to answer all the questions. However this does not mean that I may have answered them correctly.
We came this close [spreads are wide] to having the solution handed to us. The teacher had forgotten to include some vital information for one question after much whining he almost caved and nearly wrote the answers on the board, [sigh] maybe next time. Three exams left and two projects and then it is all done! Time to find me some work.

Nervous Natterings

Exam starts in 30 minutes and even though it is an open notes exam I am feeling mighty nervous. I would rather not have to write this exam, I have no idea what the teacher is going to ask and he has this nasty habit of formulating questions that have never been covered in class. Could someone please slow down the beating of my overactive heart. Perhaps the two large cups of coffee this morning were not the best of ideas. Two and a half more hours and this course will be over. Three more days and school will be done with, one more degree to add to the list. [I hope] Could it just be Tuesday, it would be so nice if exams were already over with, or better yet that there were no exams at all.

Filler Time!

Four exams left and two major projects, ack!!! Say it will be over soon, please! Unfortunately not much time will be had in the next couple of days to be posting good soul wrenching content [Unless of course I go completely loony, crack under the pressure and need a fix to reestablish sanity]. So in the meantime I present you with some filler, graciously acquired from Neurotic Fishbowl. [I have always wanted to rule the world...]

Congratulations on being the creator of a new Evil Plan (tm)!
Your objective is simple: Soul Accumulation.
Your motive is a little bit more complex: Love (Yes, it works)
Stage One
To begin your plan, you must first seduce a scientist. This will cause the world to sit up and take notice, stunned by your arrival. Who is this criminal mastermind? Where did they come from? And why do they look so good in classic black?
Stage Two
Next, you will seize control of that Opera House in Sydney. This will cause countless hordes of animal minions (rats, birds, etc.) to flock to you, begging to do your every bidding. Your name will become synonymous with fuzzy bunnies, as lesser men whisper your name in terror.
Stage Three
Finally, you will unleash your horsemen of the apocalypse, bringing about an unending cacophony of screams. This will all be done from a Floating Fortress, an excellent choice if we might say.

These three deeds will herald the end, and the citizens of this planet will have no choice but to elect you their new god.
Trust us, it'll all come together in the end.
So what's your evil plan?

Sun shower!

I was emerging from the subway's underground tunnel as the sky burst open depositing fat droplets of rain at my feet. In the distance the sun was still shinning and the air was deliciously cool. I love sun showers; the combination of rain and sun always leaves me feeling happy and refreshed. Now if only all rain storms could be like this, 20 minutes of hard rain as the sun shines gloriously above and the smells of spring waft by on fresh breezes.

If I had a penny for every dollar Microsoft has available in liquid assets...

Well, you do the math. According to CNN:

At the end of last year, according to the company's most recent filings, its cash (and short-term investments that can be converted to cash in less than a year) totaled a whopping $38.2 billion. The Microsoft juggernaut continues to generate another $1 billion a month, putting the total cash today well above $40 billion.

This is a mind-bogglingly large pile of dough. No other nonfinancial firm has more liquid money at its disposal, and only a handful of banks do. It's more cash than Ford, ExxonMobil and Wal-Mart have combined, and nearly four times as much as Intel, the tech company with the next largest cash balance. It is enough to buy the entire airline industry -- twice. Or all the gold in Fort Knox, four times over. It is enough to buy 23 space shuttles or every major professional baseball, basketball, football and hockey team in America.

Hmm, the mind boggles.
Hmm, I like boggle!

Ashley's This or That

Sneaking to say Howdy, and post a very late This or That before I head off to go do the studying thing. Six more days left of school, wow this semester flew by.

1. Which is worse: a driver riding your bumper or someone pulling out in front of you with their car?
Riding my bumper, just a stupid thing to do to anyone. I really hate when people do that and will occasionally tap my breaks till they back off.
2. Can you do 10 push-ups?
I wish! I can do two and then it becomes this huge struggle. One day soon though I would love to be able to do 10 or 15.
3. Do you bathe/shower in the morning or in the evening (or at all)?
In the morning, I can't function fully unless I have a shower in the morning, and a cup of coffee. Occasionally if I am very stressed I will take a bath or shower at night just to relax.
4. Michael or Janet Jackson?
Oh this is a toughie, can I say neither, and failing tat Janet.
5. Which do you enjoy most? Your bedroom or living room?
Definitely the bedroom. Though for snuggling up on a huge comfy couch and watching movies the living room.
6.Bathroom or kitchen?
I enjoy being in the kitchen, cooking and talking. It seems to be the place where most of us gather. The bathroom is ok, though one day I will build me a new one with a sunken Jacuzzi bathtub, Spanish tiles a multi-headed shower huge windows overlooking a forested area and if at all possible en enclosed fireplace. That would be a little bit of heaven.
7.Crayons or markers?
I love to scribble and color, so markers for the outline crayons for the filling.
8. Leaves falling or flowers blooming?
Really tough one, so I am going to say both. I love it when the flowers bloom and there is a sense of newness to the world and I adore the colors of autumn, walking amongst the fallen leaves their scent filling the air.
9.Fred and Wilma or Barney and Betty?
Barney and Betty.
10.Fame or fortune?
Fortune so that we could travel the world, live in various countries and enjoy life.

Spins a Web

Taking a much-needed [HA!!!] break from studying to go see Spiderman.
Well ok, I have been procrastinating a wee bit, and shouldn't really be taking a break, but it is gorgeous outside and it's Spiderman! So we are going to walk downtown, have crepes for breakfast and go watch the movie. [bounces up and down like a little kid]

Spiderman, Spiderman
We're going to see Spidey-man
Spins a web any size
Catches thieves just like flies
Look out!
We're going to see Spidey-man!

I want to see it again! Please can I see it again!! Pretty please... The movie was thoroughly enjoyable and completely surpassed my expectations. Granted I didn't go in with many, but wow! I think it has been to date one of the better comic book movies I have ever seen! A truly fun and enjoyable movie to watch, captivating from it's beginning and I found myself not wanting to leave the theatre as the credits rolled. I think I would have been quiet content to watch it a second time if my tummy wasn't so demanding or vocal. Got to see it again! bounces of singing 'Spiderman , Spiderman does what ever a spider can...' [just in case here are the lyrics if you feel like singing a long]

Lack of Posting? Ha!

So, I'll start with this. Munin says I don't post a lot, and admittedly when we started if you did a search for Hugin on Google, I was in 6th. I have since moved up to the illustrious and very lucky number 5! So there!!!! I am a posting machine! I am the poster child for posting. If there was a stamp for people who post under the name of Hugin, the back of my head would be licked!

In other news, and I suppose I really should have been listening to it while I posted, I started listening to music from the official soundtrack for a playstation game. Strange? Maybe, but heck, no stranger than the fact that there is an OST for it! Good game though, some nice music - it's Chrono Cross in case anyone is curious. Hmm, maybe I should start streaming music off the website... nah, too much bandwidth. But it's something to look at if anyone is interested, one of my faves is used in the intro sequence to the game and is entitled Time's Scar. I'd post a link to the intro, but never found one I liked that didn't take forever and a half to download. So... best of luck and hope you enjoy should you seek to find and hear.

Flatter the Old Biddy.

Answered the door to a curious man who seemed to be doing surveys. He first commented on the number of cats we have and then went on to ask if my parents were home. It always makes me feel good when people assume I am younger then my age. It means that maybe I have not gone too far down the path of bitter decrepit-ness. [That, or maybe I just look very young. - bemused self-mocking smile - must be the lack of 'C' cups]

One of my greatest fears growing up was to become one of those grumpy embittered biddies, so jaded by the world that they are just generally unpleasant to be around. Their bitter remarks and regretful spite makes you wonder what has caused them to hate joy with such passion. I remember being quite young, maybe 5 or 6, and swearing that I would never let myself become one of those people.

I did not want to be someone who regretted the life they had led nor did I want to regret things that I have done. In the idealistic view of youth, I wanted to be able to say at the end of it all that I had enjoyed life; I wanted to be able to sit on a porch and tell the tales with laughter in my voice and not the harsh tones of someone who felt slighted by the world. So twenty some odd years later I can pretty much say that so far so good. There are no major regrets, though I cannot say that all my decisions have been sound ones nor can I say that all my choices have been stellar. I can't tell you that my life has been one that you find in fairy books; there have been a few ups and a few downs, some heart wrenching moments, some rather monotonous ones and some very endearing ones.

What I can say is that as much as possible, I have lived my life to the fullest. I hope that one day when I am very old and gray, I will be able to sit on a porch with my love by my side and recount the tales of youth with laughter in my voice, while you flatter the old biddy! [impish wink]

One large chocolate caramel latté does not constitute breakfast, so why do I always believe that it will suffice and keep the hunger pangs at bay? Oh well, time to go grab an éclair and get back to that studying thang. In the meantime go and check out Guruvious new looks! It's got my Spidey senses all a tingling. Sick Fish

One of our platys seems to be ill. He doesn't seem able to swim in straight lines and will occasionally swim with his head down fighting to steady himself in a horizontal position. This oddity of motion began last night and this morning we found him with his tail stuck in the filter suction tube. He was just floating there helpless, not attempting to free himself. That was just heart breaking to see, Hugin managed to move him away from the tube but his tail fin seems to have sustained quite a bit of damage. We are not sure which fishy disease my be causing this, so I am now going to head out to our pet store to pick up an isolation tank and in inquire about our platy's condition.

Update: Have moved him to an isolatoin tank, the pet store guy has said that there is not much else we can do, so am hoping that he will pull through. [Does anyone know what may be causing this?]

Canadian Pride

Jamese's post on Canadian heritage has sparked a debate between Hugin and myself; we were trying to figure what else we Canadians have given to the States and the world at large. Aside from the things listed in her post there are a few comedians and actors flitting about the States that belong to us. The only problem is though we could come up with a bunch of actors names, William Shatner, Mike Myers, we couldn't quiet figure out who the female contributors were. Granted Canada has strong woman singers, Alanis Morissette, Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crowe, Holly Cole... to name a few, but the names of famous Canadian actresses eluded us. [Well save for Pamela Anderson, but I am not going to go so far as to name her an Actress]. Finally after much searching a few names were found.

As an add on here's what Canada has offered in the entertainment industries:
Famous actors and others, musicians, sports and yes we seem to have had our hand in some inventions, fads and trends too.

Just in case you are aching for more here are some additional Canadian Links
Famous Canadians
Famous Canadians Theme Page

Disclaimer: please note that we have nothing to do with Celine Dion's success, we [this site] do not consider her to be a Canadian treasure nor do we endorse her success, Please if there is anyone out there who will take her off our hands, we would be glad to give her to you, perhaps some country in need of pity.

Pink is in the Hair.

Came across an elderly lady today, she was strutting down the street with big funky purple glasses and her hair dyed bright pink. My first thought was "Wow, good for her, that is awesome!" I was proud of her, amazed at her disregard for the public's stereotypical views of the elderly. Her happy swagger brought a smile to my lips.

Unfortunately, the next thoughts took on a more stuck up tone, I began to wonder if I would have the guts to do something like this. Would I say to hell with everyone else and dye my hair whatever shade I felt suited me best and made me feel good or would I succumb to the dictations of society and stick within the norms. I then began to ponder if this was acceptable behavior for someone her age, should she be walking around dolled up like a teenager, hair a shade too loud. Shouldn't she be sticking to the carefully planned out norms that make our society feel comfortable and secure knowing that grandmas are wearing grandma clothes and probably sitting somewhere in the kitchen baking cookies. Having pondered that question on the way home, and having come to the realization that the norms, though occasionally comforting, are not always right. The answer became simple; we should all feel free to dress* ourselves in what ever makes us feel comfortable and happy. If it means dying your hair pink and wearing funky purple glasses, so be it! I just hope that one day I will have the guts to be so free in my own expression.

As a side note: it would seem that pink might just be one of the colours of summer. Walked past three more people with bright pink hair.

* I am using the term dress to also include accessorizing, which also includes the changing of hair colour.

MONDAY MISSION
Sneaks in and post the Monday mission, hoping no one notices it is indeed Wednesday.

1. When was the last time you pampered yourself?
Last week when I went to get my hair cut. Though I am hoping to treat myself to a full body massage one day very soon. That would be heaven.
2. When was the last time someone pampered you?
Last night, Hugin gave me a much-needed massage with scented oils. [content sigh] Very delish!
3. Describe the last time you recall really feeling loved (other than from children or pets).
Daily, by a person who is my best friend who makes me smile, laugh, who has been there through some really tough times and makes my world a much happier place. [Thank you love.] By wonderful friends, who make me feel loved. [Yes Oz Boy you are definitely one of 'em]
4. Has your use of the computer ever caused any arguments? What's the story there?
Luckily no, we both spend a fair amount of time on our computers playing games [together or apart], surfing the web, writing and occasionally coding. Though I sometimes do feel guilty about how much time I spend reading online, just feels like that time could be spent doing something else, perhaps seeking adventure.
5. What's the most embarrassing thing your Mom ever did?
My mom has a wonderful ability of making me feel shy wherever we go. She is an amazing gregarious person who loves to be the center of attention, which makes me want to hide on occasion. Though the time she tried to get a guy to give her the shirt of his back because her daughter [that being me] liked it was bashful making, especially at the age of sixteen when the guy is cute.
6. I've met some adults who've never learned to swim, and others who never learned how to ride a bike.. Is there anything that you never learned as a child that you probably should have?
I want to say ride a horse, but I don't think that falls under something I should have learnt when I was a kid. I was pretty lucky and got to do a lot of stuff when I was young, swimming, riding bikes, traveling. I also believe that you are never too old to learn something new.
7. I have no idea who said it (and I spent all of two minutes trying to research it), but "someone" once said, a picture is worth a thousand words. Post an image that says more than words. Or instead, describe a picture you recall which touched your heart.
There are many pictures that have touched my heart at one point or another, ranging from pictures taken during great tragedies, to pictures taken at weddings, at births and of nature. I don't think I could choose one image among the many that have affected me. [Maybe one day I will post some of them] Suffice it to say that images capturing human/animal emotion or human nature have always managed to touch my heart and occasionally have caused me to cry.

BONUS: What's love got to do with it?
