Some fries with that? Have

Some fries with that?
Have just started reading Fast Food Nation and there are some figures in it that are just mind blowing. Did you know that the American nation has spent $110 billion dollars on fast food alone in 2001? According to Eric Schlosser, the author of the book, that is more then they spent on movies, books, magazines, newspapers, videos and music combined. As a nation, Americans have spent more on fast food then they have on higher education, computers and computer software or fast cars.
To me that is just mind numbing, how is it that we can justify eating out at least 3 to 4 times a week, at a fast food joint that serves food that my or may not have any nutritional value and not spend money on things that may better us as a person. How is it that we have traded the family meal for a quick bite at the local eatery? Is it a conscious choice or have we come to this because we can no longer afford to put the time into preparing meals on a daily basis? I have only begun to read this book and already it has evoked a slue of questions, bringing much food for thought. I wonder what others queries shall be forth as this book progresses.
