"OSCARS" {--- Look what Munin is doing!
I like watching the Oscars. Sort of like I used to watch the Miss Universe competition when I was younger; watching the people on the show was enjoyable but watching the interviews and presenters is torture. The poorly written stuff they have to say is barely redeemed by some of the well-spoken individuals cast to speak the lines, other times... ouch.
As another thought, it was good to see Jodie Foster on stage; and glad to see that she is back on film.
"Ruh-Neb" Cool. Roberto Benigni. Yup, I like him. I love watching the first part of La Vita e Bella. He is simply amazing. Also really enjoy watching The Monster.
[[Munin - I am glad that they did a clip honoring New York city, I thought it was well done, well put together and well presented. Was expecting to see some shots of the World Trade Center. Don't know why, I thought it would of been good of them to honor that site as well in remembrance]].
Uh-oh. I was just reminded of that other thing I really find irritating in the Oscars... the shows. I know they are supposed to pay tribute to the movies to which they emulate but last year, for example, I thought that the little bit they did for Crouching Tiger was just awful. Maybe it was just me, maybe it wasn't that badly done or anything, and yes, there were some aspects to it which were technically nice (unless memory no longer serves), but I still find them to be a less than most sincere form of flattery.
Although in all fairness, it was Cirque de Soleil - they damn good.
[[Munin - I love what they did with the animation films. The planting of the main characters in the audience, it was absolutely brilliant. Especially having a take ready for the ones who didn't win the Oscar]] Ah, but I remember them doing that with Toy Story... so not too new.
So, Sidney Poitier... now I have the desire to watch The Defiant Ones again, To Sir with Love, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and Stir Crazy. They are some of my favourite films and I have always found Sidney Poitier to be an amazing presence.
And as another aside, Julia Roberts. A most real person, who shines through in her every smile and laugh as more real than real, very human and endearing in her simple presence. [[Munin - Agreed! She has to be one of my favorites actresses, along with Kate Winslet and Renee Zellweger (and a handful of others). Who are down to earth people, sincere and real.]]
Congrats to Randy Newman. The man deserves it, although undoubtedly in my opinion he deserved it before this. But then aside from May it Be and Faith Hill's singing there wasn't much competition; couldn't stand the jarring nature of the songs by Sting and Paul McCartney.
[[Munin - My congratz to Denzel Washington, it's about time he got an award. It was really good to see Julia Roberts give it to him, and so very endearing to watch her reaction when he won.]
[[Munin - and now for the catiness.. the clothes... Oh just go see it for yerselves, each of us has our own sense of style, some of us know how to dress and others, well others need a better sense of fashion. What was Gweneth wearing?!? Yoiks!]
