So me being the slightly accident prone absent minded person that I am, I managed to set off the fire alarm whilst making supper. This wouldn't be so bad if it was an internal alarm where you could just knock the battery out to shut the darn thing off. No, thanks to our wonderful landlord [sarcasm here] this alarm system is connected directly to a local dispatch center. So as you can guess 5 minutes later 2 fire trucks pulled up to our place. There they are about 6-8 firemen, in their gear, masks around their necks with rather large axes in their hands and here I am, barefoot, jeans and a light sweater standing outside my front of my door. " I'm sorry lads, so nice of you to come but ... umm, yup, you see I was cooking and I didn't mean to but I accidentally triggered the alarm. Would you care to stay for dinner?" Am quiet lucky, they took it all in stride and had no other pressing matters to attend to. Though they did tease me about the whole thing and one of them 'threatened' to hose me down the next time it happened. ;)
As much as I am grateful for the fact that we do have an alarm system that will alert the fire department of our demise it irks me that our landlord has not given us the number to call in case of a false alarm. This is the second time that this has happened [sheepish grin] and it worries me to think that one day they will just not show up because they will assume it's a false alarm.
