I said that I would post this one-day, and well here it is, a little late. Ok, so it's a few months late, but, umm... I really can't think up any excuse at the moment, so with out further ramblings;
Yet another stab at an over abused invention. The Segway.
So as has been noted on many another page IT or Ginger if you please has made it's debut. Though the specs are cool, and its ability to "read the riders" mind if you will, and mimic equilibrium is phenomenal there is still a note of discord with this product. Though I can see the seqway engraining itself in to some parts of our lives, I have great difficulties with the inventors, that this new vehicle [or gadget] will revolutionize transportation and replace the car for people who live in big cities. As much as I agree with the philosophy of using mass transportation, employing vehicles that are more environmentally friendly I find that there are several problems that I see with this statement. First off who is going to fork over the 3000 plus [8000 for heavy-duty model] to purchase what can be considered to be a high-end scooter? Especially when a good old two wheeler will generally set you back a hundred dollars, if you are not going for the graphite carbon number all spruced up for racing. Secondly can you imagine zipping around on this thing in the middle of a blizzard, or heavy showers? Lastly, how does one drive the kids off to school in this thing? Or go grocery shopping? The only places where I can see this being useful would be in large factories where employees need to get from one building to another or somewhere warm and dry, in a city center used by the average businessperson to get em about town. But even then, the problem of dirt arises when one is wearing a suit.
