I stopped watching West Wing after Rob Lowe and Aaron Sorkin left. Quite often in the past a change in characters has ruined a show. The chemistry that was enjoyed vanishes and you are left remembering what was without being able to enjoy what remains.
Hope that doesn't happen here.
Posted by hugin at Julio 16, 2004 11:38 AMi started watching the west wing randomly in reruns, and very recently, so i saw both post-Sam Seaborn / pre-Sam episodes & never developed the attachment -- didn't matter, i was enchanted by the fantasy world in which we have a smart, principled president with a brilliant staff & they have actual moral principles to go with all that mad power & they're all really hot, too.
Donna got hurt, bad, in the season finale (attending a thingy in the Gaza) & she's rushed to Rammstein & Toby tells Josh to go to her (even though there's this huge international incident) because he knows Josh is totally in love with her at this point though no one's admitted it & the last thing that happened was Josh got back to the hospital & there's been a complication, Donna's in surgery, she had a pulmonary embolism. (remember, that's what killed Josh's dad?) and that's where it ended. i *will* be watching the next season, oh you betcha. the season opener will be an event, i'll get dressed up & drink cocktails watching it.
most days i watch the reruns 11:00 - 1:00 on bravo, (even though the first show every day is a repeat of the second show the day before) & then there's another timeline running monday thru thursday at 7 pm on bravo & then every sunday night, yet another timeline running on KCAL9 locally.
i don't have a problem, i could quit anytime.
Posted by: lizard on Julio 17, 2004 05:11 PMHave you watched the earlier episodes from the start?
It wasn't just the loss of the character, but also the change in style of writing. Granted the concept of a principled President and smart staff is still there, but the words aren't as good.
Interesting development there, although I found Josh to be getting a bit irritating in what little I watched of the 5th (?) season.
Posted by: Hugin on Julio 17, 2004 08:28 PMI still love the show, but you're right, the writing isn't as good as it once was. I'm totally addicted though, and half the time I don't really even understand any of the political stuff going on!
Not sure how CSI will fair now...should be interesting.
Why does Bravo only show seasons 1 through 4. I am a total addict to the show and wont get to see season 5. If anyone knows of any reruns other than on Bravo tell me.
