I look at collections like these: a. b. c. And I am awe stuck. I wish I had their ability of capturing those moments both extraordinary & ordinary. I wish I had their talent and capacity of communicating emotion, thought and human sentiment in a format that transcends the barriers of language. I wish that I wasn’t so shy, so timid, and that I had more confidence of my own capabilities such that one day I could take photos like these.

Because you are always the most critical of all viewers. Just do. Let others judge. They will, anyway.
(Personally, I think you're pix are wonderful. Many others are pretentious on repeated viewing...)
You take lovely photos!
Remain in awe of the photos others take, but also learn to appreciate your own.

there are some pictures of mine that i like, but i am in awe of their ability to capture people. i have always been very shy when it comes to taking pictures of people. i don't know how to approach them. also, i lack technique, a lot of the pictures i take just 'happen' randomly, there is no real thought as to exposure, lighting or shutter speed... but i know that technique will only come with practise.

I have nevrer seen your pictures but I am sure they are great just from your taste in others. The first set were a bit pretentious but the others were great. I love photography! I use an old completely manual Minolta from the 70's so I can't load mine up to easy. But I love looking at everyone elses. Don't be shy share!
Posted by: Sandra on Abril 29, 2004 10:42 AMHi Sandra!
you can find some of our photos here, the others are scattered in the archives. :o)
i actually love the first set, pretentious as it may be :o). what i love about it is the aesthetic value and artistic aspect of the pictures, and the ability of the photographer to ask people to pose for him [i believe the photographer is a him. have to check] granted they are all models, but... still. though i should also say that my favourite pictures of people are usually those that have been taken candidly.
one of my favourite cameras is my mom’s old pentax, also from the 70’s. but like you I find it hard to get those pictures posted. hoping that you find a way to post them so that we can to see some of your work.
Posted by: munin on Abril 29, 2004 11:22 AMAs soon as I bought my digital camera, all those perfect shots started disappearing. Now I just see the world as everyone else does.
I'm thinking of getting rid of my camera.
I think that Sandra needs to look at that gallery again. That is no where near pretentious. It's photographic and vigagistic art in one of it's finest forms.
You might or might not like the style or subjects, but calling it pretentious is not doing justice to art and artist.
Posted by: Marcel on Mayo 3, 2004 03:15 PMmarcel. point. the word pretentious, does not do the collection justice. though i am not sure what word to use that would be better. perhaps that the shots are staged. though even at such, they are well photographed and evocative. and as mentioned above i envy his ability of capturing and staging the shots. they are quite well done.
... we all have our impressions and thoughts about art.
