Over the past few days I have had the weirdest craving for oatmeal. I think it is due to the weather, something about cold rainy days inducing a need for hot steamy comfort foods, one of them being oatmeal. So here I sit, warm oatmeal in hand, happily munching away, enjoying the warmth that it brings. My question is am I the only one who mixes trail mix [or GORP if you please] into their oatmeal? *
*Yes. I am a strange egg.
Posted by munin at Septiembre 23, 2003 10:09 AMYou are a strange egg :). But that's why we love you.
And actually, I think its a really great idea. I'm going to tell that one to Steve! He's always looking for salt-free ways to jazz up his oatmeal!
Posted by: Amber on Septiembre 23, 2003 08:10 PMBoyfriend puts cherry jam on his oatmeal -- it's surprisingly good.
There are several excellent books written by Dr. Joe Schwarcz (Professor of Chemistry at McGill) and one of them is a book called
That's The Way The Cookie Crumbles; it has an article on oats which completely vindicates your craving for oatmeal. I will ask BF if we can borrow his copy to show you.
(More fascinating food info from Dr. Joe to be found here, go peek.)
Amber dear, i stick my tongue out in your general direction. strange indeed. humph! *warm teasing smile*
I started putting trail mix into my oatmeal a few years ago while on a hiking trip to boost up the energy content and it stuck. :o) Hope Steve enjoys it!
Ed, Dr. Joe Schwarcz rocks. If you ever get a Chance to see one of his demonstrations i would highly recommend it! He's a very entertaining, and captivating presenter.
