Scouring the news, pages upon pages hold articles on the Conflict with Iraq . Thoughts, opinions, silly notions and general worries. Trying to find good news, snippets of life that are not affected by the impending war.
My thoughts are muddled; I hold various opinions on this matter, some of which are not always deemed as popular. Which is one of the many reasons why I do not share them with the world at large, I have seen too many times the backlash to an unpopular opinion. Maybe one day I’ll write them out in full. But, for now they remain mine as I watch parts of the world prepare for war while the other part gather itself up, a tight little ball of fear, worry and anticipation, hoping that in the end things will be better for everyone.
Posted by munin at Marzo 13, 2003 10:50 AMThis has nothing to do with war, but all the news about Elizabeth Smart bothers me. Not because it isn't happy news, it IS happy news. Its awesome, wonderful news. It bothers me because she probably went through sheer and utter hell. She is probably a very different girl now, and she has a long haul ahead of her of therapy, readjusting to her family. I mean, I can't even imagine whats ahead for her. I think the media needs to leave her and her family alone. I think all this coverage is making a really difficult situation for her even worse because now she has to be all happy and stuff for the media on top of dealing with her ordeal.
ok, rant over ;).
Posted by: Amber on Marzo 13, 2003 11:47 AMI know about people who talk about suffering for the common good. It's never bloody them! When you hear a man shouting "Forward, brave comrades!" you'll see he's the one behind the bloody big rock and the one wearing the only really arrow-proof helmet!"

If a Quantum Weather Butterfly blogs in the forest, does it make a sound that affects the price of tea in China?
Yes, it does; because the sound it makes is Meme.
So please do dare to share your opinion. Perhaps it may be imprudent to post them on your personal site, I don't know; but somewhere there must be a forum for the exchange of ideas where you can say your piece/peace. Would that be a consideration?
Posted by: edgar mousehat on Marzo 13, 2003 01:24 PMPart of what makes the whole thing so scary is being unsure of what the war will bring. Sure, just like anybody else my first inclination after the planes crashing was to want revenge, but this seems to be turning into so much more.
I am not willing to want innocent people dead just so I can get my gas cheaper. I do not want to live in a country that is going to become a security state like Israel in order to stop all the terrorists that will be coming after us.
Someday I want children, and don't want them to live in the world that I fear may be coming. I miss our old American president Bill Clinton, because while he was far from perfect his time in charge just seemed like a better time.
Posted by: stacey on Marzo 13, 2003 05:08 PMAmber, I know what you mean. It feels as if she has to keep up the smiles. To show everyone that she is happy to be back home. But parts of her must be going through hell. I agree wholeheartedly with you. The media needs to leave her alone and give her time to heal.
Stacey and Ed, I really want to respond to your points properly, so this may landing up being an in parts thing...
