Living without fear

Erika is asking ‘What would YOUR life be like if there were no more violence in the world? What little things in your every day life would change?’

For me it would mean:
not being afraid of walking alone in some areas of town.
never having to worry about friends who currently reside in places in which women are not treated as equals.
never having to cradle a friend in my arms who has been abused.
never having to come to terms with emotional abuse.
not having to read stories about women who have been beaten and raped.
never having to look into the eyes of a women who has fled her husband, who has left everything behind save for her child. never having to see that anguish, that fear, or that look of such helplessness as she tries to come to terms with what she has fled and what her future will hold.

Tomorrow is International Women’s day and this month is National Women’s History Month in the States.[ For us Canadians, it in October.] There are a few things that I would like to write, there are questions that I would like to ask. But, right now, the words aren’t forth coming. They need to sit and stew for a little while before they can be formed into coherent thought.

For me it would mean living without harassment from men. Not sexual harassment. I can handle that. I'm talking about verbal and emotional abuse....
