Going to war.

There’s a lot of discussion going on about the immanent war with Iraq. As with all things there are those who support the idea of the United States going to War with Iraq, and there are those who oppose it, preferring a diplomatic, more peaceful solution to the issue. I have heard a lot of rhetoric supporting both views in the past few weeks. I have heard people quoting the propaganda, but what I am most interested in hearing are people’s personal views on the matter, without the rhetoric.

So my question to you is, why? Why should the States go to war? Why should they not go to war? What do you feel would be a just cause to support the war on Iraq? What would you propose, other then war, as a means to end the crisis?

*The fine print: This is not a political forum, nor is a place for you to convince others that they are wrong. This is just a place where you can state/discuss your view, and share your insights on the matter, nothing more nothing less. Any slurs or name-calling found within the comments will be immediately deleted, and I will ban the IP of any who insults, slanders, defames, or abuses other commentators. So play nice.

i believe in defense versus offense. war on foreign lands is a sign of offense. protect the homeland.

Another question - What is to be done if the U.S. and its claims are correct? What are the UN inspectors to do in this case? If they find some weapons, can they find all? What if they find nothing, but the U.S. is right? Weapons are designed to be used, or to threaten to be used. Who are they intended to be used against? What if someone else acquires them also (eg - a non-state who has no moral or political reason NOT to use them to furthere their aims?) Look again at the possible answers. EVERYONE has an agenda here.

I just feel that the Bush Administration is mainly interested in keeping the Middle East our personal gas station. Instead of taking measures to increase gas milage standards and stuff they choose to keep wrecking the environment.

Also, the U.S.A. just looks like big mean bullies without waiting for the UN. I believe we need to work together or things will get much worse.

Well, there is a point to what you say Bobby. But it has been tried before, by England and the United States. And unfortunately, what may start as none of your business, may end up being very much your business. World Wars have been known to be like that.

Yup Da.

It is easier by far to prove the existance of something rather than the non-existance.

So even if the UN finds nothing there, that doesn't mean there is nothing to find. And that will no doubt be the US argument should that occur.

On the other hand, it certainly does look bad for the US. Looks like Bush wants to be just as good as his Dad and go kick around the local bully.

Unfortunately while the image is bad if the US is wrong, if they are correct...

Sometimes you have to be proactive. You have to go out and do something before the need arises; because when you are discussing mass destructive weapons, if you wait - you lose.
