Walking downtown the other day with Hugin, we came upon a man spreading the word of Jesus. He approached us and said, 'Would you like to speak to Jesus? Let Jesus enter your life and save your soul...'
We politely declined and moved along our way. The little imp nattering off in my mind however, would have been quite content to respond with the following.
Sir, I am afraid you have come to late; my soul you see is a tarnished thing, blackened and streaked with grime. Its day of saving has long since passed. If perchance you would have the devil at hand, I would be happy to partake in a discussion with him. Barring that I would be more then happy to talk to Moses.
Yes, I am a bad, bad person who will one day be probably banished to hell for thinking such thoughts. Luckily I don't believe in the place, ain't no Hades here, just purgatory.
Posted by munin at Febrero 9, 2003 04:08 PMit is difficult to resist baiting the proselyizers (sp?) - they can be such fun. but it's not nice to mess with their little heads, really.
Posted by: kd on Febrero 9, 2003 04:25 PMI generally try and be polite. Everyone is entitled to their view of the world. If the man believes that Jesus is going to save his soul I am not going to argue with him or tell him otherwise. It is his right, his view.
The only time this behaviour irates me is if the person doesn't take a polite hint and though you have kindly asked them to desist several times they keep on going. At that point I usually walk away. If they choose to persist after that... *wrings hands in gleeful delight* *cackle*
and yes, some days it is very hard to resist.

Don't know as we'd have much to talk about, but we could just hang around and watch the modern day Mary Magdalenes welking by.
Discuss a little history. See what TV shows he is watching. That sort of thing.
