Captain, my brain, I don’t think I can take on any more.
First day on contract and already my brains filled to capacity, so much too learn, so many standards to remember. I don’t think there is much space left for anything else at the moment and I have no idea how I am going to assimilate the additional information that they are throwing at me tomorrow. I am still not sure what project I am going to be working on, they basically plopped me in a corner today with a stack of reading material concerning company policy and their design standards that I have to adhere to. All in all I think I have gone through about a dozen documents today and have probably read 300 pages and perused at least a double that. [yup, this company loves their standardization.] Other then reading the above, got to set up my work desk and encountered one major hiccup, the design software needed would not boot up. Luckily someone was there to fix the problem. Also confirmed the fact that I indeed have no access whatsoever to the outside world. [sniffle] Time to get me a PDA so I can jot my thoughts down during the day and post them when I get home.
Tomorrow the real work begins, I hope, and then I shall be up to me eyeballs in drawings, details, design parameters and equations. I just hope that I am not totally brain dead tomorrow or they are gong to be answering a lot of questions on Monday.
